#LibrariesDecidedDemocratic”: With its rich history and cultural heritage, Bremen offers the ideal setting for the congress motto. The Hanseatic city unites tradition and modernity in a unique way and is known for its openness to the world and its commitment to democratic values.

Bremen’s libraries are living examples of the power and importance of democratic institutions that open up free access to knowledge and information. Not only are our libraries open places, but also the heart of Bremen’s democracy and politics: the Bremen Parliament and the historic town hall, which, together with the Roland statue on the market square, is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. UNESCO recognized this ensemble as a “unique testimony” to the development of civic autonomy and market rights in Europe.

We invite you to explore Bremen and be inspired by its many attractions and life in the city, as well as the wide range of offers and opportunities that the congress provides.

Together, we can help to further develop and strengthen libraries as indispensable pillars of a democratic society.
